"Let's just write that our service costs 365 euros a year and has a 10% error margin. We are logical and transparent!"
I've heard this proposal many times, especially from tech companies or highly technical teams. Spoiler alert: presenting data in a cold, purely logical way is the best way to destroy the perceived value of your product.
Behind a sales page (Landing Page) that truly converts visitors into customers, there is almost always a cognitive bias studied by the world's greatest psychologists: the Framing Effect.
The brain is not a computer
Our brain does not process mathematical data neutrally. It is deeply influenced by the "context" in which this data is presented. Here is how this mechanism works in 3 steps.
1. Emotional deception and Loss Aversion
The human mind experiences actual psychological pain when it has to part with its money or its certainties, a phenomenon known in behavioral psychology as Loss Aversion. If you present a price or a statistic the wrong way, you immediately trigger this "pain" and the user runs away, even before objectively evaluating the offer.
2. The positive frame
Let's take a classic clinical example. If a doctor told you that a surgery has a "10% chance of failure", you would probably be terrified. If, instead, they told you it has a "90% chance of success", you would feel reassured. The mathematical data is exactly identical, but the emotional frame completely changes your perception of the risk.
3. Micro-conversion and breaking down the pain
Let's apply the same concept to pricing: never just write "Pay 365€ a year". That whole number seems like an insurmountable hurdle. Break down the pain! Reframe the offer by writing "Only 1€ a day". The brain subconsciously compares that figure to the cost of a daily cup of coffee, making the expense psychologically harmless, familiar, and very easy to accept.
UX Copywriting is not manipulation
A fundamental detail: the Framing Effect is not a scam or a cheap trick. It is pure User Experience Copywriting.
It means presenting the truth and real data in the way the human brain is most likely to welcome and understand them without sounding the alarm. Combine this linguistic technique with clean design, highlight the real benefits (instead of sacrifices or losses), and watch your conversion rates skyrocket. Go check right now how you have "framed" the prices on your website!
